Call for Proposals Notice
For the implementation of activities in support of Programme Purpose

The Improved Forest Management for Sustainable Livelihoods Programme on behalf of the National Authorising Officer of the European Development Fund in Malawi, is seeking proposals for the implementation of activities which support / complement the work of the programme in and around its 12 Impact Areas.
 
This call is open to Non Governmental, Faith Based and similar Organisations or Associations which are appropriately and legally registered by the Government of Malawi (International NGOs and FBOs must have their Headquarters in either one of the EU 27 countries, in Malawi or in any other ACP country).
 
The proposed actions, which can be in one or more of the Programme's Impact Areas, must show demonstrable links to the Purpose and Results of the Programme and will be expected to be undertaken with the support and active participation of the local communities which shall benefit therefrom.
 
The overall objective of IFMSLP is to improve the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities through sustainable collaborative management in the specific forest areas.
 
Actions must support at least one of the following IFMSLP Result Areas:
  • Result Area 1: Promotion of sustainable livelihood strategies, including provision of capacity building and technical support to village savings and loan schemes (but not funding of micro credit)

  •  
  • Result Area 2: Secure equitable access to forest resources through increasing the area under sustainable forest management arrangements

  •  
  • Result Area 4: Promotion of communication and advocacy within and between stakeholder groups
For all result areas the Programme also seeks added value through promotion of cross-cutting issues such as gender, HIV/AIDS and social rights.
 
Grants awarded will be in the range of EUR 40,000 to EUR 100,000 (approximately MK 7.2 million to MK 18 million), and will be for a maximum of 90% - and a minimum of 50% - of the cost of the proposed activity(ies): I.e. the grantees will be required to contribute between 10% and 50% of costs. The period of operation shall be for a minimum of three months and a maximum of one year.

The deadline for submission of proposals is 9 June 2008 at 16:00 hrs local time in accordance with the minimum period required (60 days) from the date of publication of this notice.
